Species of India
As soon as you hear the name of the spice, there will be names of select spices in your mind. But you may not know that according to the International Standards Authority, more than 70% of the total known spices species are found in India.
Indian cloves, cardamom, black pepper, nutmeg, etc. spices have been spreading their taste and aroma all over the world since ancient times. Indian spices have also been the cause of global conflict. Indian spices are not only known for taste and aroma but they are not lacking in medicinal properties. With the use of these spices, medical scientists from all over the world today are constantly innovating to increase the immunity of people and use them for treatment. In the present situation, India's spices trade is spread to about 180 countries of the world and accounts for more than 75% of the total trade. Due to the geographical conditions of India, spices are favorable for production and spices are produced in almost all the states.
The Spices Board has been set up in India under the Ministry of Commerce,Government of India. A total of 52 types of spices are registered under the Indian Spices Board.
The Board deals with the production, development and export of spices. According to the report of the Government of India, a total of 10,62,022 tonnes (worth Rs 18845.00 crore) has been exported in the financial year 2018-19, which has increased by 5% in value and 3% in quantity since the last financial year.
