Meet the man behind the INDIAN Rupees Sign


In a challenge organized by Government of India under the supervision of President Pranab Mukherjee on 5 March 2009, Many Designers participate in this competition, 3331 design submit by participating out of 5 design is shortlisted for the final round, Mr. Sushil Kumar undersecretary of Govt. of India is approved the winner of this competition.

Prof. D. Uday Kumar, currently head of Department of Design, IIT Guwahati, Rupees sign won the competition on 15 July according to various conditions i.e symbol represent India ethos and culture, etc.

According to the professor
Rupees sign basic idea come from the Devanagari letter ...... and also resembles with Latin word R, before this Design approval " Rs. " use as a symbol , "Rs." still used in Srilanka, Pakistan, and Nepal.

He says...... The symbol depicts the equality sign, which is the core culture of our country.
